  In A New History of Redemption Dr Gerald McDermott one finds an excellent book on Jonathan Edwards and a beautiful exposition of and walk through the steps and stages of theological considerations concerning the hope of the Messiah Jesus of Nazareth. McDermott explores the work that Jesus did in redeeming the world of its ails through the life of the church and throughout history.   In the volune gets a refame of the significance of Edwards thought on redemption, while exploring so many topics and texts. McDermott demonstrates his vast and excellent knowledge of the theology of Edwards.   I enjoyed the section concerning the Babylonian empiric domination of God’s chosen people. McDermott clearly explains the history of redemption for the Christian and the Hebrew children.

What a misnomer “woke culture”!!! Woke is something that a few black women came up with a number of years ago. Our culture is not woke in their sense of the word. Woke is a term that has been hijacked by people who do not understand its nature. It is more akin to consciousness raising from the 1980s and 90s. Which had more to do with individual changes in peoples understanding of the world moving toward a more feminist Understanding of the world  woke in not our enemy. It is not equivalent to diversity, equity, inclusion. There are tribes, many tribes, but one does not equate them all with woke. There is the master in all situations, and the slave that is compliant in most, but not all.  In terms of social interaction there is the master/slave power relationship, as clearly as the dichotomy itself. What a person says about social issues is not controversial, but rather they are political by their very nature.  If “the personal is political,” then anything a person utters is political and hence controversial. Whether one agrees with recent developments around a star’s statement or not, one needn’t even speak it. What is the difference between mandate of heaven and manifest destiny or divine providence?   It is that which comes about through no metaphysical being, but rather is the resultant in history.   The Zhou were the first to reference 天下 as that which is meant to be when a ruler won a battle. It was, to put it in a way that we can understand the sense, ordained. There was no personage in heaven or willful nature which ordained the result. This is a very difficult concept to portray in Western ideas or language.
