A Great Book to Read
A New Redemption History Gerry McDermott begins with creation; he shows how God worked through Israel then His chosen nation and then accomplished redemption through Jesus, the Jewish Messiah. It should take in the consideration that not all Jews, though a shrinking majority of them, accept Jesus as the messiah, i.e. the anointed one of God meant for reverence at the culmination of history.
After
writing about Jesus, McDermott writes over the span of church history, what
McDermott calls “From Christ’s Resurrection to the End of the World,” looking
at both sacred and secular and the rise of various religions and movements in
the process of history. The book finishes with the eschaton, the new heavens
and earth, and God’s and the churches’ ultimate glorification in eternity. God is
glorified in Orthodox perspective , and the church and believers are glorified in
this world when they demonstrate the grace and peace of the Savior, Jesus.
McDermott writes a tremendous work on the history of Christ’s redemption. Clearly a formidable scholar and theologian in the tradition of Jonathan Edwards, Dr McDermott specializes in and is acclaimed for, and rightfully so. He has written a great number of works informed from an Edwardian perspective. McDermott is a tremendous theologian in the orthodox tradition. A New Redemption is a work which spans history from the earliest church to the present day to the eschaton (“end of time” for those who do not know the theological terms). Every Christian should know the redemption history of God and this work certainly maintains a tremendous sense of accuracy on the matter.
