MOTHER POWER
Becca Rothfeld writes
of the 2 feminisms in the following “There is a reason that we have abandoned
some of the more maudlin products of the 70s, namely the mushy hippies claiming
that our wombs put us in touch with the earth, and retained the more
pessimistic Dworkin. What is femininity, at its core, but institutionalized
disadvantage? And what is feminism, at its core, but the attempt to expose
gender as a nightmarish farce?”
In the 80s, the
feminism I saw was that which used deconstruction to lay waste constructs
around and about characterizing women.
It seemed then that other groups were only slowly gaining ground around
gender issues. The movements of the 21st
century have speedily indoctrinated the general population to agree on so many
points of view which all derive from a lust for political power, the kind of
power that Michel Foucault world wonder at. 60s may have been the bedrock of
the mother earth brand that the 70s pushed forward. 90s were, at least in the
religious studies, the move to create literature that propped women up to
higher places in ancient times (see the work of Elaine Pagels) or that eroticized
religion, in favor of making seductive religious art, for example.
Again, in the 21st
we see the disagreement that Rothfeld spells out, BUT on a grander scale gender
studies have become mainstream shifts in the way we and our children think. No
longer is it gender studies or queer theory; rather, the common place rules
around LANGUAGE mostly sets gender on its ear and pushes a narrative of
negativity about the white male, who cannot seem to do anything right.
Along with the innuendos
that demean parents, we have the transgendered individuals which make life
difficult for those seeking a fair playing field for women in a supposedly man’s
world.
Frankly, all of these groups just need to get over themselves. Shew! Things are changing so quickly in this world that humans will have practiced enough criticism of each other that there may be fewer left as a result of this activity than what is being calculated due to “global warming” AND what a pleasant time for AI to come on the scene; one should go back to the 80s’ film Blade Runner to get a feel for the idea of sentient life in the LIFE of AI
