Come out of Babylon, Part 1, the curse of cultural relativism
Jay Medenwaldt indicates that Rod Dreher understands that “the Supreme Court decision regarding same-sex marriage as the final nail in the coffin for Christians in the culture war. Our loss is evidence that Christians need to try a new strategy and focus more on strengthening ourselves and our communities so that we can more effectively influence others” Dreher wrote “Post-Obergerfell Christians who hold to the Biblical teaching about sex and marriage have the same status in culture, and increasingly in law, as racists” These are harsh words and can be challenged, because there is no summation, in Dreher’s book, of the extent to which racists are held accountable for their beliefs, actions, and words. This statement is simply an analogy which is not rooted in more than an opinion. Does Dreher really understand the nature of racism, since he is a white fellow? He points to the movement of culture within Christians and their collusion with a culture which has “no intent of living in postwar peace. It is pressing forward with a harsh, relentless occupation, one that is aided by the cluelessness of (those people) Christians who don’t understand what is happening” Christians have bought into the mainstream culture without a moment of critical thinking about it. This has happened with the likeness of a slippery-slope whereby Christians have been complicit with the culture around them. There is a lot of infighting among Christians on things like these matters which brings to the fore the complexity of what Christians all struggle with each day. Is it possible that people can be liberal in some areas and conservative in other areas? The way that each justifies positions that seem to be conflicting and contradictory has so much to do with the nature of multiple aspects of human personality, development, and attitudes. People hold contradictory beliefs and ideas which are all over the map, so to speak. Each person has beliefs that seem contradictory to others. So-called tolerant people are effectively the judge and jury on other people they frankly hate. Tolerance is a highly sought-after characteristic, a lofty aspiration, but is it really possible to hold to tolerance? I do not think so. Leftists, progressives, and liberals are just as intolerant as anyone else. Relativism and self-awareness are curses for people everywhere. Our knowledge is limited and relative, but God’s knowledge is absolute. We are limited; therefore, we are given scripture to guide us. Now some of you can butcher what I have said about our knowledge. You may argue that there are absolutes. The absolute I know of is God and His Word.
Christians need not leave the world or culture but come out of the "culture." Church, come out of Babylon!!! Revelation 18:4 Then I heard another voice from heaven saying, “Come out of her, my people, lest you take part in her sins, lest you share in her plagues.
