Need God

This morning I realized that this world needs Jesus.  Dietrich Bonhoeffer stated that Jesus Christ is for me, Christ is for everyone and the church but specifically for me ( you). Jacques Derrida states that there is a reaction to the death of God and that reaction is an existential responsibility. Albert Camus said something about this as well.  The question is why would one need to be responsible for anything if there were no God or there is the death of God?  Derrida goes as far as to say that we have a sacrificial responsibility in a shared narrative. For Derrida there is religion without religion.  What is missing in all of this is what is called revealed theology and this is where God becomes known as incarnate and for us.  God is not the god of the philosophers and scholars, but the God that is revealed (revealed theology) that "needs" the event of a revelation.  We can talk about religion, theology, and beliefs for of against the existence of God.  Many non-Christians and atheists in the world state that they "do not need the church because it is full of hypocrites" and that they are "spiritual" not religious and that the dislike "organized religion." This is a shame and a mark against humxnity and the suspect behavior of many Christians (many nominally so, at best).  God's mercy and grace and faithfulness (hesed) is greater than any mistakes the church members can make.  The event in history that needs to take place is the resurrection, the revelation of God to and for us all. The resurrection is a fact, and though our believing in God does not substantiate God's existence, we still believe in God, as the scripture says to do so.  If God is for us, who can be against us. Bonhoeffer in a nutshell.

I would hope that the Church is filled to the brim with hypocrites; as well as sinners of all stripes. I can think of no better place than the hospital of souls. It's a place of healing for the fallen and broken so it only stands to reason that's where you'd find them. Thankfully. Those who decry hypocrisy in the church fall prey to, as do many Believers, that once Christ is accepted the work is done. But that is where the heavy lifting starts as we begin, by God's grace, to grow, learn, and change. I wonder if the abundance of hypocrites at the grocery store would prevent their shopping. Perhaps. There's always doordash I suppose.

Unknown Thank you for your wisdom..... You gave a challenging comment. I hope others read this and get something real from it and not doordash it. I liked the heavy lifting statement. One needs God in respect to mind, body, and spirit.

Dirty words

  “Conservative” and “liberal” have been words that have incited arguments (not necessarily fighting) in the 20 th century.   In recent times the word “conservative” has become a dirty/filthy word.   It has indicated “hate” “Hate-speech” “unlovingness” and derogatory terms attributed to it.
